Intensifying overnight and only getting stronger as it moves closer to the both curves
Texas and Louisiana
Under states of emergency of anyone living between the gulf and the Intracoastal waterway is told to get out
But as long as it sits here, it's gonna be very dangerous for people living in this area. It's the President United States
he's been on Twitter a lot and he's taken some shots at the congress in particular the
Establishment of Congress president tweeting quote the only problem
I have with mitch McConnell is that after hearing repeal and replaced for seven years he failed
It's kind of his job to legislate. It's the president's job to leave
he's doing his part now congress has got to step up and do their for many in the left wing Twitter mob this image of
A little white girl an Aclu T-shirt is deeply offensive
You show you responded when your Twitter followers keep you in check and remind you that white supremacy is
Everywhere that trivializes real racism that trivializes real problem the where of that seven hundred fifty eight?
million Dollar Powerball has been revealed and it's fifty three-year-old Mavis wins ik of
Massachusetts the first thing I want to do is I just want to sit back and relax and minded a pipe dream and then
country
We start this hour by looking at the radar and a Fox news alert
Hurricane Harvey intensifying in the gulf coast and only getting stronger as it barrels Toward, Texas yeah
Texas and Louisiana under states of emergency bracing for a life threatening flooding from the strongest hurricane to slam the u.s.
In over ten years we have live team coverage Janis Dean is live in the weather center, but we're gonna begin with Rob Schmidt
He is live on the ground out there in Galveston, Texas where the monster storm is moving closer and closer to you Rob?
Good morning. We're getting quite a show right now the
the first Outer band
I think has just hit in the form of a pretty violent thunderstorm that just rolled through about five minutes ago
We were getting slammed sideways rain lightning all around us. It was it was pretty scary there for a minute
It has subsided here just in the last 90 seconds or so, but that first outer band has come through and we're starting to see
This storm kind of come to fruition and all this that we've been waiting for
And if we move a little bit further south which we're going to do later on today
We're gonna really see it intensify as the day goes on still calling for this storm to come
In to shore and make landfall the eye of it anyway about a hundred miles south of here
So where we are right now in Galveston?
Which is in the general Houston area is going to be getting at these outer bands and probably more tropical storm-Force winds
But this side as we've been talking about
all morning
is going to be the dirty side of the storm the right side of this hurricane this side could get twice as much rainfall as
other parts of
this storm and even in the corpus Christi area because the dirty side just dumps all that rain all that water and as
Janice has been telling you all morning
The storm is going to stall out and if it's and when it does that it's just gonna keep dumping all that rain
and they're expecting somewhere around three feet of rain two to three feet of rain in some parts of
this area of the Houston area so
Expect that there is a mandatory evacuation near Corpus Christi for anybody living between the gulf and the intercoastal everybody else under a voluntary
evacuation
But it's certainly starting to look like it's a good idea to get out of here because this is gonna be a big rain event
And a big wind event to our south and Corpus Christi guys
We'll send it back to you all right rob Schmidt live in Galveston with the very latest. Thank you very much Meanwhile
Let's go to Janice Dean Janice just about an hour ago. We didn't know whether or not
we'd be able to have Rob's live report because the
Satellite truck was there and there was a lightning storm going on
That's just one of the things that comes in anticipation of the big storm right absolutely
So he is getting some of those outer bands from the system. We're expecting landfall overnight tonight around the Corpus Christi area
But we're looking at some of the computer models now
And there is some indication that this storm could slow down before it actually makes rainfall which means our landfall which means relentless winds
relentless storm surge that
water being piled up along the coast and the flooding concerns are going to be dire as we head through the
Weekend and into next week so here it is right now new advisory comes out at an eight o'clock eight o'clock
So important to watch these advisories
They'll give us the location of the storm a new track and the intensity and as well
giving us the information that the hurricane Hunters have been
Going back and forth and inside the storm and seeing that there is some strengthening going on as we have very warm waters ahead of
It but look at the computer models
So this is the last round that we've gotten moving inland over the next 12 to 24 hours and then watch what happens it
Just stalls the steering currents in the upper levels the atmosphere very weak, so it's just going to be sitting there
Maybe coming onshore, and then may be moving out into the gulf of Mexico and re strengthening again. There is the possibility?
for a second, landfall across, Louisiana
But for now the main threat in the next 12 to 24 hours is a landfalling hurricane a major
Category three and the Epic
Life-threatening potentially catastrophic flooding that will follow as we head into next week
We'll be covering the storm for the better part of the next six or seven days back to you alright
We'll be covering that the president of course 15 hours ago tweeted out everyone should look out
Because we know this is coming, and he's been in constant contact with the governors of those states. Let's also
Tell you what's been happening the president up early and tweeting he tweeted this
He said if senate republicans don't get rid of the filibuster rule and go to a 51% majority
Few Bills will be passed 8 dems controlled the senate
We also tweeted general John Kelly is doing a fantastic job of chief of staff
There's tremendous spirit and talent in the white house don't believe the fake news. What's important about that keep in mind, Mr.. Kelly
General Kelly had been the guy who ran the department of homeland security which is in charge of Fema which all eyes are now on
Texas because the big storm is coming also he knows Washington
He worked under Leon Panetta who was a chief of staff of Bill Clinton
He's to be able to use all those resources plus the respect he's earned
Plus he also went on to say did the president view of any administrations have done more in just seven months than the trump administration
bills passed regulations killed border military isis
isis
Yeah, okay, my bad. So that's all true. But that's what the president's in control of what frustrates as him as that
Thinks he's not in control of and that is passing legislation putting together bills the argument might be any trump administration
You know you write the tax plan you write the to instructure plan you write repeal and replace, but my sense is yeah
you could do that you might feel better about yourself, but if they can't pass their own plan why would they
Write who decides to change it from filibuster to Simple majority just mitch McConnell himself
Because if you get some hillary Clinton, and then the liberals have control they don't have to have as many votes, right?
But I think what the president has revealed in the last couple of days through his twitter
dialogue going on with the country is
We've seen that he's had a you know a dust-up with Mitch McConnell
Clearly this has set the table for the president to make the argument with the American people. We're not gonna get the stuff
We you voted me to be a present united States
For we're not Gonna get this stuff done
Unless we change the basic senate rules and we had jason chaffetz sitting right over there on the end of the couch yesterday
He said it's time to change the rules get rid of the filibuster
so you could pass bills with just a simple majority and because the republicans have a simple majority in congress that
Would be the way to do couldn't republicans change it to a simple majority right now
and then before the
2018 elections change it back to filibuster they could but then the democrats could do the same thing as soon as they take all right?
It's a gigantic risk for the ruling party
And there's a sense in the senate that you wouldn't even get 30 votes to go
Majority because both sides have a sense of tradition and a fear of the future if they do this now
That's why schumer was pushing harry reid not to do what he did and that is get rid of the filibuster
and go simple majority on
okaying judges and then the
Republicans said yeah, you can okay district court judges
I want to okay a supreme court judge or Gorsek wouldn't have gotten passed
But look at the last week the president sent out this morning
And it was look at all the stuff that I've been able to do without
Congress essentially I've been able to do it without congress if congress wants to do stuff
They're gonna have to change the filibuster rule, so I think that is the direction where this has all been going
He's been
Negotiating with congress over Twitter for the last couple of days and now I think this is where I'm so interesting
I'll go ahead and the president's been well. I was gonna move on to the next topic. So you you say well
I just want to say this in past you might hear a insider reports as president frustrated with their party fill in the blank
but now in
2017 you have the president is frustrated with the party. How do we know he told us or he tweeted it?
so you don't need the innuendo and the
Double/double secret sources so we somebody get out there and people don't understand how to interpret it
Bottom line is it reminds me so much of sports you have a coach who might humor you might not like when you're playing for
Him but you like having played for him he wants the most out of Mitch McConnell & Company he knows mitch
He's got the experience, but he knows what he wants his results
He knows that McConnell and Ryan are great people, but he doesn't like the fact that they're not producing
He doesn't want to be friends. He wants to be effective, and that's what he's saying
it's not hard to figure out because when people say look he just needs to go out and try to get some moderate democrats to
Come over to their side
That's never going to happen in a million years
a lot of Republicans are mad at the Republican party the swamp the
Establishment because that shouldn't have to happen the republicans should be like the democrats the democrats have always been loyal to each other they vote
The same way usually well at least in this administration by the way
We do have some news this morning and apparently the white house is going to roll out new messaging on tax reform
according to bloomberg and axios this morning apparently because they
Didn't work out well for the white house regarding repeal and replacement of obamacare what they're gonna do is they go?
Forward is the president is going to be making some speeches next week including Springfield
Missouri
Where they're going to roll out the ideas about tax reform?
The bill itself still being written, so you don't have a lot of details
But nonetheless sir starting the messaging campaign right now steve a new chin said I'll give it to you in september
So we still got a little bit of time?
They said they're making great progress there are omb director is also very well respected Mick Mulvaney
I'm very curious to see if they're going to roll
If they're going to be able to give us something specific, and you might be able to get some democratic votes there
I see tester Manchin McCaskill need this present. Thank you
Think it would pass easily. This is tax reform means putting money in the
Pocketbooks of tax well where you cut right? Just one other bit of news
It looks like the president is thinking about a trip to ASia
Stops there would include China Japan and South Korea. Okay gillian has some headlines for us. Hey Gillian
That's right good Friday morning to you to you at home as well. Let's begin with this Fox news alert navy Divers

Apologize
Thank you. She has no manafort connections
well
You know that we know?
All right also coming up mysteries still surrounding the deadly collision between an oil tanker and a u.s.
Navy Warship what went wrong there, and what is the navy going to do to fix it?
We're Gonna ask the chief of us naval operations admiral John Richardson
He's going to join us live next and illegal immigrants out sneaking into the u.s.
By boat under the cover of Darkness, but too bad ice was watching and we have infrared cameras and a logo
We are back with a fox news alert brand new details emerging in the search for the missing us sailors
divers discovering two of the ten bodies there the pictures
following the fatal crash of the usS
John McCain with an oil tanker near singapore earlier this week the Navy is still searching for the
Remaining eight sail or so what went wrong to date and what is the navy doing in the wake of this tragedy?
Here with the latest is the chief of us naval operations admiral John Richardson. He joins us today from the pentagon admiral good morning
Good morning
I know your thoughts and prayers are with the families of those who were lost a couple of days ago on thing
No, absolutely that's our our top message today
Is that our thoughts and prayers do remain with our fallen shipmates and their families?
Their families will always be partly family and treating them as family with dignity and respect is our top priority
You still look at this as a rescue operation
We have moved from a search
operation into a recovery operation at this point and so our our emphasis is on the
Difficult work of recovering our shipmates Ronda there have been four accidents
Since January for the Seventh fleet and therefore the vice admiral joseph Aucoin who was the commander of this the latest of this ship?
Lost his job and they say due to a loss of confidence in his ability to command. Do you agree with that decision and why?
Admiral Swift made this decision after careful consideration
you know we are a business of
Stark and Harsh accountability we hold our commanders to very high standards
to Deploy
safe and effective forces and when they have problems to take
Firm corrective action ahead will Swiftlock put in state Id law coins ability to do that
And I support that decision sure admiral
This is the second collision with the seventh fleet in recent months
Could it possibly be related to the training some of these folks are receiving well, you know everybody's got those sorts of questions
The inside the Navy and around the nation that is why we have
commissioned a really a a series of investigations
So right now
We are conducting the operational pause around the fleet that is our first effort to stop from our operations
Some time between now and the end of the month to make sure that we are taking a look at any kind of near-term issues
That could could affect our safe and effect
