Beer - the favourite drink not only of the Germans.
Far from the mass market, small breweries are experiencing an immense upturn through
"homemade" beer, Craft Beer.
A world of enjoyment opens up, which is colourful, it's fun and gives pleasure and provides
a stage for a whole lot of protagonists.
For example Kirsten Rhein,
Markus Hoppe
and Timm Schnigula.
They are among the leaders of the Craft Beer scene.
Kirsten left her home in Cincinnati, USA, 16 years ago, with a clear goal in mind.
Where is it the best beer?
I'm into beer and mountains and therefore of course Bad Tölz.
50 kilometers north-east of Bad Tölz in Grafing near Munich, Markus Hoppe checks the bottling
of his Craft Beer.
As a so-called Gipsy Brewer, he is a tenant of friendly brewers.
It has advantages per se for the Gipsy Brewer because he doesn't have to take a risk and
can produce risk-free and it also benefits the brewery, which the Gipsy Brewers bring
on board, because they usually have a long-term partner, which helps them with fixed costs.
Timm Schnigula already has his own brewery.
For him, Craft Beer is a philosophy.
I think Craft Beer must be unique in some form.
I do not think it is necessary to make any compromises, that is important from the brewer's
point of view, you must not let yourself be driven by costs, you have to have a clear
idea of how this beer should be, how it should taste, so it must be unique in taste.
For me, it has a lot to do with the fact that it is homemade, it's all about innovation.
I have, like a cook, a taste in mind, I imagine the taste, I pack everything into it - raw
materials, energy, ingredients, time, so I get exactly that taste.
In addition to water, yeast and malt, the "green gold" - the hops - are one of the most
important ingredients for a Craft Beer.
When you smell it like this, you have to open the umbel and preferably squeeze it between
your fingers,
then you get the full aroma, wine-like flavors.
This is, of course, great, for a Craft Beer, where you can really take advantage of these
special aromas.
If I use more hops, the beer will be bitterer, drier, crisper.
Hops are of course our passion.
I can also take malt varieties that range in taste from very black roasted to super
bright and mild - and combine it all, there is an infinite variety.
And that, again, is what I find so fascinating about beer brewing.
It is not surprising that the range of Craft Beers is constantly increasing.
The demand and interest in the topic is growing, we are noticing this again and again from
customer frequency and new customers.
Above all, but also visible through ever new projects of established breweries, new beers
on a well-tried basis, but also all the time new Craft Beer projects come along.
Everything about the topic of beer and Craft Beer - and much more - at drinktec.
Drinktec is a fascinating event, because it's just so gigantic.
It's THE Olympics of beer.
You are just amazed and you stand there like a little boy in front of a toy railway.
I admit that frankly.
As a technician you are fascinated.
It is a top platform for the companies to present themselves
and for us a fantastic lesson.
You can look at everything, of course you also meet all the people.
An incredible amount of people there, but at every corner you meet people you know.
Everyone comes to drinktec.
It's a terrific highlight.
An exciting, beautiful trade fair.
I'm really looking forward to it and I will certainly be there very often.
It's going to be a very, very good week, I think.
For everyone.
